Canine Ambassadors

Picture
The Purpose of the Canine Ambassador Program

To make presentations to children in pre-school and K thru 6th grade classrooms or settings showing basic dog needs and dog care; explaining how to meet dogs both friendly and unknown; telling how dogs help people; demonstrating the importance of a well-mannered dog by the example of our own dogs’ behavior and training.

Only members in good standing of Channel City Kennel Club may participate in the program.

There is no set schedule for visits. The day and time of each visit is determined by the individual classroom or school. Generally, one visit per month is scheduled. Members are notified at least two weeks in advance as to the time and place of the visit. There is no required number of visits for members.

Any dog participating in the program must have passed the evaluation for the CGC (Canine Good Citizen) certificate; or TDI (Therapy Dog International) or LOL (Love on a Leash) certification. In addition, each dog must be reliably comfortable while being petted continuously by small children for a period of 10 minutes or more.

The program’s leader(s) reserves the right to excuse any dog from the program that he/she feels is disruptive to the session, or is incompatible with the other dogs.
